Mobile Choice

Choosing the best cell phone is complex and there are many important features to consider when buying a new cell phone. The most common questions go on size, sound quality, battery life, price range and other features.

So, buying a cell phone is more than a matter of choosing a handset--you also have to pick a service provider, or carrier, as well. Each carrier in the UK offers a different selection of technologies and services, so it's important to think about your needs when making a choice. For that reason, selecting a carrier should be the first step in the cell phone buying process.

Below, a small list of the most commented phones around the year. More than designs, functionality shoud be looked to check if it fits your needs.

Apple iPhone 3G

Definitely "The" most wanted device of this year, theres a lot to look forward to. The multi touch navigation is intuitive and makes the phone a great deal of fun. The display is absolutely hypnotic with crystal clear resolution and good coloring. The Iphone 3G does lack support for 3G data network and does not have instant messaging or office apps, but what it does have it has the best of. Screen size: 3.5 inches (diagonal)

BlackBerry Storm 9500

The RIM BlackBerry Storm features an innovative touch screen that provides tactile feedback to confirm your selection. The Storm offers dual-mode functionality for world-roaming capabilities as well as EV-DO Rev. A and UMTS/HSDPA support. Other highlights include GPS and a 3.2-megapixel camera. Screen Size: 3.25" high-resolution display

Samsung Omnia i900

The Samsung Omnia is the hottest phone of 2008. It's a touchscreen smartphone and, unlike the iPhone, it does everything that a high-spec phone ought to do. The Omnia has everything: a 5 megapixel camera, 3G video calling, a music player & FM radio, fast web browsing, the most memory ever seen on a mobile phone, and it connects to any device you can think of via Bluetooth, USB or Wi-Fi. Screen Size: 3.2 inches

Nokia N96

Nokia's flagship smartphone just got better! Complete with 16 GB built-in memory, GPS satellite navigation, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G video calling, and every other gadget you can think of! On the downside it's large, and battery life is poor. Screen Size: 2.8 inches

LG Viewty KU990

Combining a touchscreen user interface with the latest technology, the Viewty ticks all the boxes: 5 megapixel camera, 3G video calling, high quality video camera, MP3 player, FM radio, HSDPA for broadband internet speeds and bags of memory. Screen Size: touch screen is 3-inch, 400x240 resolution display

The RIM BlackBerry 7130c sports a very sleek and compact form factor, as well as a solid feature set that includes Bluetooth, EDGE support, and a speakerphone. The 7130c also has excellent call quality and can deliver e-mail in real time.

Palm Treo 650 Unlocked GSM PDA Phone (Refurbished)Palm Treo 650 Unlocked GSM PDA Phone

The Palm Treo 650 benefits from an improved display and keyboard, integrated Bluetooth, and a speakerphone. The world phone also has a 312MHz processor, Palm OS 5.4, multimedia, and e-mail support. Sadly, the Palm Treo 650 has meager integrated memory, no built-in Wi-Fi, and a low-resolution camera. Also, the Treo 650's headphone jack isn't standard size, and you can't use its Bluetooth as a wireless modem.

Sony Ericsson T610 Unlocked Bluetooth Cell PhoneSony Ericsson T610 Unlocked Bluetooth Cell Phone

Sony Ericsson boasted a phone with 65,000 colors, 32 instrument polyphonic ring tones, MMS, a build-in digital camera, and Bluetooth technology. Many cellular phone enthusiasts were praising it as the perfect phone, even before they had a chance to hold it.

BlackBerry Bold 9000 Smartphone - Black

Most people associate BlackBerry with business email, but things are about to change. The BlackBerry Bold is certainly aptly named: it's a very daring step into the world of all-in-one super-phones. The Bold's core features are still made of serious stuff, but with the addition of HSPDA (3.5G) and GPS, RIM hopes to capture a larger piece of the smart phone pie.

HTC Touch Diamond

The good: wi fi, small form factor, sleek overall design, sharp vga display, compact and attractive design.

The Bad: poor battery life, questionable build quality, battery life sucks, no keyboard, no sd card slot.
